First day of school

I'm not sure what happened to Summer Vacation...it zipped by  too fast. The kids are going back to school tomorrow. Which gives me a great excuse to share my Graphic 45 ABC Primer  patterned paper mini album...how did you like that conversation transition?

This chipboard album does not have the usual  Stickle, rhinestones and glitter pen bling that I have added to  some of the other mini albums I have designed.  This  paper reminded me of vintage school books that my grandmother may have taught from back in the 40s.
So I created a distress look by sanding the edges and using a lot of Tim Holtz Wild Honey Distress Ink.
I used two different sizes of chip board pages for the book...it gives it a great layered look. The edges of the larger pages layered ...the red gingham and ABC area.
When you open the first small page the rest of the cover is revealed
Who does "This Book Belongs to"...
The little girl writing on the chalk board or the girl in the red dress... that appears to be giving some one a spanking...WHERE WAS THE TEACHER WHILE ALL THIS WAS GOING ON?!?!?!?

Decisions

We got the official email from Sheri our fearless Mystic Paper Design Team captain. Our March project sacks are ready at Mystic. march?...March?....MARCH already!?!?

I picked up my kit yesterday...Lindsey was there getting hers too.

My sack had one of the new Paper Loft patterned paper lines. If you haven't seen the wonderful display Jennifer set-up of these papers, just as you walk in the front door at Mystic, you'll have to stop by and take a look. The line I got for my project is called "Grandmas House". Great colors and even better it's two sided. There was also gorgeous aqua ribbon and a token...

The assignment was two 12x12 layouts-or-one 12x12 layout and one card-or-one project of your choice.
Decisions...decisions!

Waiting for Grandma

If you remember back to my "Family Connection" blog, I had spent the summer going through family photos, histories and working on genealogy. Most of this renewed interest came about because of the death of my husband's grandmother last November. Grandma's death was sudden. She was 100 years old, and in good health. These pages are in remembrance of her.
The paper has the look and feel of textured wall paper. I rub a white ink pad over the surface, and highlighted with a white gel pen. I used the same gel pen to decorate the laser cut "Waiting for Grandma".
I pulled apart then re-assembled a large white flower. The center is a brad, I covered with tacky tape, and rolled in tiny glass marbles. The "together" tag probably came off a shirt, and the love charm from a wedding announcement. Grandma is hiding in a velum envelope.

Lighting a Fire Under Grandma

In my Mystic Paper Design Team sack for October I also received four sheet of Basic Gray Perhaps patterned paper. The colors went well with a picture of my grandmother when she was a young girl. I set the paper and the photo on my table, and waited for some inspiration to come...it took a while.

I remembered a technique I had seen at Art Unraveled last year. A photo had been copied on to a transparency, and it had been burned just enough to melt the edges. A very cool effect. I played around with the transparency of grandma and figured out how to burn the edges ...with out burning down the house. I was pleased with the way it turned out...what do ya think?
